Redacted poetry!
A super easy creative writing exercise!
Most writers swear by writing exercises to help combat writer's block, but isn't that kind of an oxymoron 'cause WHAT THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO WRITE IF I HAVE WRITER'S BLOCK???????
Well, here's a super easy exercise for you!!
✎﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏

All you need is a magazine, newspaper, old term paper, etc (pretend mine isn't over a year old🥴), and a writing utensil

Again, super easy. Find an article with a nice selection of words you like. Start marking out the words you don't want and form your poem.

Disciplined and loved.
Wonderful things.
But less than seemingly invincible, declared no secret to confide in a companion.
I also used a highlighter, but that was more for photography purposes.
But there ya go, that simple! No rules, no restrictions, add or remove as you see fit!
✎﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏
If you guys use this one, post your poems and tag me! I'd love to see what you guys come up with!

great creative exercise - we'll very much be doing this for evening activities during the Ad Astra Institute's speculative fiction writing workshops this summer!
my friends and I have created a game we call Quipposting, where you play quiplash but you roll a wheel full of character archetypes, and whatever it lands on, you all answer as if you are like, a wizard or cowboy. This legitimately makes quiplash go from a fun enough game to an S+ tier absolute unabashed banger

Creative Exercise Two - Additional Reading
Set Decor Magazine - INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS
I decided I wanted to do an extra reading from Set Decor magazine as I find their articles really beneficial for helping me understand more about cinema and the world of Production Design!!
Set Decorator - Susan Bode Tyson SDSA Production Designer - Jess Gonchor CBS Films

The Coen Brother's wanted to make this film to explore the life of a troubled musician in 1961 NYC, focusing on the folk music scene. The film looks at themes of authenticity, music, as well as the struggle of identity.
The art dept. team recreate the Greenwich Village folk music scene of early 1960's, focusing on period-specific details as well as creating an authentic atmosphere.
Susan Bode Tyson discusses all the challenges with creating a period-specific set while still maintaining authenticity. She highlights it is the importance of attention to detail that truly makes the set feel real, and also lots and lots of thorough research. As well as this, the team also had to transform different locations across New York City.
The Gaslight Cafe is a pivotal moment in the story and a very significant set, with the design team emphasising the importance of capturing the essence of the folk music scene.
With set pieces, the production has to be absolutely perfect, as to be able to fully immersive the audience in the story. Any mistakes take the viewer outside the film, losing on focus on the core of the narrative.

12 Writing Exercises to help develop your character and their voice.
Editors note - There's a lot of boring writers drivel. So, to spare you from the headache if you're not interested, your characters individual voices and personalities are important for engaging stories and interesting plots. You can skip down to the end for the exercises.
Think about the people you know, the people you love. What's one thing they have in common, besides the obvious? They're all uniquely different. Everyone in the world is different in some way, even in media. Books and movies all have unique sounding characters that are different from each other. In Harry Potter, for example, All of the characters have their own voice, even the Weasley twins are different in their own ways.
Complex and unique characters that sound different, interact and speak differently, make for engaging books and dynamics.
I don't know anybody who would want to read a 50,000 word novel about two boring characters, who're exactly alike, and talk in the same monotonous tone. You can have a character who is "boring." who speaks monotonously and still have an interesting novel that people would read.
Having different characters who come together to create funny, interesting, or weird dynamics makes for a readable piece. Take your monotonous character, by themselves, they're kind of boring. They're not engaging to follow. But, introducing different characters to come and interact with your "boring" character, creates funny and memorable dynamics.
Think the anime Saiki K, or Veronica Sawyer from Heathers. If you took only those two characters, and stripped away all of the background characters, they wouldn't make for very interesting stories. Saiki would be happy, living his days in peace and quiet. Veronica would just be a normal edgy high school girl. But if you bring the side characters back, you bring the story and their conflicts back. Saiki goes back to being annoyed by his weird and goofy friends, wishing for peace and quiet. Veronica goes back to being tormented by JD and the group dynamic in the Heathers clique.
These stories utilize background characters to create conflict in their main characters' lives, and makes fun and interesting stories and dynamics with them.
Without further ado, here are 12 exercises to help you develop your characters, and get you thinking.
Ask your character what they want, and have them monologue about it.
Think about who, in your life, does your character remind you of.
Ask yourself, What does my character want, and what does my character need? How do they conflict with each other, and how does this affect my story?
A good exercise to help you write characters interacting, and practice dialogue is to do the ABCD exercise.
The ABCD exercise is writing a full page, or 500 words, of dialogue between two characters, character a and character b, talking about what they think character c thinks of character d. Then, write another page depicting how character c actually interacts with character d.
Write journal entries from the pov of your character.
Think about your character's habits, nervous tics, or tells, and write out a page where they do those things.
Think about something your character holds dear to them, and give the item a backstory.
Think about how your character interacts with other characters, and write a page for each interaction.
Think about a belief or opinion your character has, and write a page of dialogue, where your character is explaining their belief, and why they believe in it, to another character.
Write a page about your character reminiscing, or talking, about a cherished memory from their past, or childhood.
Write a page of dialogue about character a telling character c about character b, whom c has never met before, what kind of things do they say? What do they think of b? Then write another page from character c’s point of view, what are they thinking? How do their thoughts of b change? What do they think of character a? How do they imagine character a and b’s relationship?
Write a page about a character being forced into a situation with their greatest fear. Then, if you want to go a step further, write a page of the same thing, but introduce another character that the first holds dear to them, or wants to protect.

i love when words fit right. seize was always supposed to be that word, and so was jester. tuesday isn't quite right but thursday should be thursday, that's a good word for it. daisy has the perfect shape to it, almost like you're laughing when you say it; and tulip is correct most of the time. while keynote is fun to say, it's super wrong - i think they have to change the label for that one. but fox is spot-on.
most words are just, like, good enough, even if what they are describing is lovely. the night sky is a fine term for it but it isn't perfect the way november is the correct term for that month.
it's not just in english because in spanish the phrase eso si que es is correct, it should be that. sometimes other languages are also better than the english words, like how blue is sloped too far downwards but azul is perfect and hangs in the air like glitter. while butterfly is sweet, i think probably papillion is more correct, although for some butterflies féileacán is much better. year is fine but bliain is better. sometimes multiple languages got it right though, like how jueves and Πέμπτη are also the right names for thursday. maybe we as a species are just really good at naming thursdays.
and if we were really bored and had a moment and a picnic to split we could all sit down for a moment and sort out all the words that exist and find all the perfect words in every language. i would show you that while i like the word tree (it makes you smile to say it), i think arbor is correct. you could teach me from your language what words fit the right way, and that would be very exciting (exciting is not correct, it's just fine).
i think probably this is what was happening at the tower of babel, before the languages all got shifted across the world and smudged by the hand of god. by the way, hand isn't quite right, but i do like that the word god is only 3 letters, and that it is shaped like it is reflecting into itself, and that it kind of makes your mouth move into an echoing chapel when you cluck it. but the word god could also fit really well with a coathanger, and i can't explain that. i think donut has (weirdly) the same shape as a toothbrush, but we really got bagel right and i am really grateful for that.
grateful is close, but not like thunder. hopefully one day i am going to figure out how to shape the way i love my friends into a little ceramic (ceramic is very good, almost perfect) pot and when they hold it they can feel the weight of my care for them. they can put a plant in there. maybe a daisy.
#warm up#writeblr.#i am not going to personally comment on the pineapple debate#some things are too big for me.#maybe we could have everything on earth choose their own names.#wouldn't that be fun#it is a creative writing exercise. okay. ily#''why only these languages?'' ..... bc i dont know every language#sorry :(#PLEASE leave me comments about what words u think are correct. i love learning them#btw! this isn't saying these are the most BEAUTIFUL words for it... just the words that are the most CORRECT#like i quite like the word ''keynote'' as mentioned. it's got a lot of fun sounds in it.#but it is not CORRECT.#''gloaming''' is interesting and fun and poetic but it is NOT correct . evening is MORE correct#but less beautiful.#does that make sense?

I recently just found your account and LET ME TELL YOU I AM SO AMAZED BY THE AUS AND ARTWORK YOU MAKE! And do you have any plans on continuing the abyss body au? ( i just love the concept so much)
Thank you so much!!!!
And yes, I do plan on continuing it! It was giving me some trouble in deciding what direction I want it to go and whose POV i want to focus most, but I think I finally found a direction! I struggle to write anything that is meant to be kinda pointless/ just for fun, so I usually use these AU’s to explore a specific concept, and since I didn’t know if I wanted this to lean more on a funny casual side, or more towards a suspense, almost horror vibe, it really made me fight for it lol
But I got it!! I think!!!! Here, have some Endless Abyss doodles!!!!

Im highly considering making this a proper fanfic and posting it on Ao3, but I think I would first write it all down and then post the chapters weekly or so, just so I can limit myself and don’t spend another year writing it every 2-3 months like I’m doing my current fanfic Locked & Loaded (which I’m not abandoning!!!! If I’m finishing any fanfics it’s that one!!!! I just take my time with it)
And just because I need everyone to understand just how much trouble this AU is giving me, here is a collection of the first 3 failed attempts to plan out the story (blurred because I’m still going to use a few things here and there)

#this may have been stressing me out but its also been a great creative exercise#really making me fight for it lol#komm’s endless abyss travel guide#doodles#svsss#shen yuan#shen qingqiu#luo binghe#bingqiu#bingyuan#exposing my struggles so others know its ok to struggle with creating

Creative Exercise Two - Part Two
Set Decor Magazine - US
Set Decorator - Florencia Martin SDSA Production Designer - Ruth de Jong Universal Pictures
The film Us - directed by Jordan Peele - explores the fear of doppelgängers, looking at the concept of being one's own worst enemy.
Set Decorator Florencia Martin and Production Designer Ruth de Jong worked collaboratively to create a visually striking and psychologically evocative atmosphere.
The two designer's highlight of this production was the set of the Wilson House, serving as an anchor for the narrative and includes details reflecting the characters' previous traumas and discomforts - through decor and furnishings. The film itself is set in present-day Northern California, with the protagonist returning to her childhood home for a summer getaway with her family. Florencia Martin describes that the set design of this hogshead to have a naturalistic aesthetic while still giving a sense of discomfort for the audience.
It was very important for Peele to keep the design process extremely open and collaborative, looking to bring everyone's desires and visions to life. This included the production design team, as well as the the director of photography!
While this article isn't long, it does emphasise the importance of visual storytelling across all of Jordan Peele's films, including Us. The visual storytelling has to always enhance the narrative. The designer's have the job of balancing naturalism with unnatural elemental details in order to create an immersive experience for the audience.
